BACDS December 2012 Electronic Mailing
BACDS sponsors English and American traditional dances in the San Francisco Bay Area. This is fun, relatively easy, community-oriented dancing with live music. All dances are taught, no partner is necessary, and first-timers are welcome unless otherwise noted.

Join us for the 26th Annual No Snow Ball
Saturday, December 1, 2012, in Oakland
Celebrate the 26th Annual No Snow Ball Festive Contra from 7:30pm-midnight at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension, 4700 Lincoln Avenue, Oakland. There's a free newcomer's session at 7:00pm. Join callers Susan Petrick and Ric Goldman and the music of Star Thistle (Dave Kistler, David Wright, Lonna Whipple, and Cheryl McKinney) for a great evening, and don't forget the potluck after(contributions appreciated!). Sassafrass Stomp December Tour
Various dates December 8-22, 2012, multiple locations,
Sassafras Stomp, purveyors of "sweet, high energy, folk music from the Maine/Montana border" will be playing at several dances in the greater bay area, including BACDS dances in Berkeley December, 19 and Palo Alto December 22

San Jose Community Dance 2012-2013 Season
Usually 1st/3rd Sundays, San Jose
Join us for this beginner-friendly sampler of English and Contra dance on
Sunday afternoons at The First Unitarian Church of San Jose!
Dancers of all ages welcome! It's 1st and 3rd Sundays each month until the end of June (Dec 2 & 16 - Jan 6 & 20 - Feb 3 & 17 - Mar 3 & 17 - Apr 7 & 21 -
May 5 & 19 - June 2 & 16). We dance 2:30 - 5:30pm.
Introduce your friends and acquaintances to dancing at this beginner-friendly
dance, and help publicize the dance by printing out a few copies of the attached
flyer and posting it or passing it out wherever you can.
Add to the festivities by bringing light snacks to add to the refreshment table for the break.
Help out the organizers by coming a few minutes early to help set up or pitching in with cleanup after the dance.
And most important of all, offer your friendly smile to new dancers and anyone on the sidelines as you invite them to dance.
Palo Alto Contra New Year's Eve dance

ECD Style Workshop with Bruce Hamilton

Local treasure Bruce Hamilton offers a workshop to help English Country dancers to improve their dancing and take it to the next level, showing you how to feel musical phrases, move with the flow, connect with your fellow dancers, and otherwise get the most out of English Country Dancing. All the points will be illustrated with dances, but the dances will all be simple or well-known, so you can focus on the point without having to think of what comes next.

Workshops are Saturday, March 2 (Berkeley), Sunday, March 10 (Palo Alto), and Sunday, March 24 (Sacramento). Rehearsal dance is Friday, March 29 (Hayward).

Hey Days 2013 - save the date(s)
Sunday - Sunday, August 18-25, 2013, Bishop's Ranch
Join us August 18-25, 2013 for Hey Days English Dance and Music Week at the Bishop's Ranch in the Wine Country of Northern California. Near Healdsburg, Dance staff includes Andrew Shaw, Scott Higgs, Kalia Kliban, and Adrienne Simpson. Music by Childgrove, Persons of Quality, Wayne Hankin, and Charlie Hancock. Special callers course with Scott Higgs. Registration form will be live in January. Lottery postmark deadline is March 19 (March 5 for Callers Course).
