BACDS June 2010 Electronic MailingBACDS sponsors English and American traditional dances in the San Francisco Bay Area. This is fun, relatively easy, community-oriented dancing with live music. All dances are taught, no partner is necessary, and first-timers are welcome unless otherwise noted.

Jubilee Clothing SaleSaturday, June 19, 2010 1:30-5:30p, Rockridge We're giving you the clothes off our backs! Come to this fundraiser to help with the travel expenses of our own Jubilee American Dance Theatre to represent American Dance at to the Moscow Folklore Festival - yes! in Russia in September. The festival celebrates the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II, and the countries that participated to end Hitler's invasions. Notorious tours the Bay AreaJune 16-27, 2010 The fabulous Notorious will play contra dances (Berkeley, San Rafael, San Francisco, Palo Alto, Hayward), dance weekend (Faultline Frolic in San Rafael), do house concerts (San Rafael, Oakland) and run a music workshop (Hayward). Enjoy them, dancing or listening! Not too late to register for American WeekJuly 3-10, 2010, Mendocino Celebrate and share your passions for music and dance during this week long camp in the Mendocino Woodlands, offering a kaleidoscope of dance, music, and learning experiences wrapped in serious fun and heartfelt camaraderie.
Balance the BayAugust 13-15, 2010 in San Francisco. Registration is open! Callers Lisa Greenleaf, Susan Petrick, bands The Latter Day Lizards and the OpporTunists make for a rocking weekend in the City by the Bay. Fall FrolickFriday-Sunday, October 15-17, 2010, Aptos Fall Frolick is a primarily all-English country and display (morris/sword, etc) dance weekend, with a strong music and singing track. It provides a wonderful opportunity for dancers, callers, and musicians to explore the extraordinary range of English country display dance with wonderful teachers and splendid musicians in a glorious setting. Contra CollegeFriday-Sunday, November 12-14, 2010, Ben Lomond Contra College 2010 is a teaching retreat for new and intermediate dancers. Held at the beautiful Sequoia Retreat Center, it features Susan Petrick calling and teaching, with local musicians and a waltz workshop. This weekend is designed to systematically teach Contra dance and build community in a small group setting, and promises to be both fun and relaxing. Fall Ball - save the dateSaturday, November 20, 2010, San Mateo Join us for this year's ball, "Quite a Song and Dance", with caller Ric Goldman. It's a full day and night of English Country song and dance. Dance workshop 2:00-5:00 pm, take a dinner break, and come back for Singing at 7:30 pm and the Ball at 8:00 pm, all in the San Mateo Masonic Lodge.
