Music Workshops

Delve into the intimacy of Music all day long in focused workshops expressly for musicians. Bring your instruments of choice, your ability to learn by ear or notation, and your thirst to absorb the fundamentals as well as the intricacies of making music for dancers.

Fiddle along with Rodney Miller, finessing techniques while focusing special attention on how to select the perfect tune. Soak up the secrets of making fine music provocatively danceable!

Keyboard players, join Elvie Miller to observe and practice the underlying textures and interlacing contours that can enrich traditional music.

Follow the trail of musical routes of Eastern-European Romani culture. All are welcome to attend the “Gypsy Fiddling” class, to hear and learn fiddle tunes from Eden MacAdam-Somer.

Hone your tune-writing skills with the master, Larry Unger. Learn how to compose original tunes or improve upon those already in your repertoire. Be sure to bring your favorite instrument, your voice, your ears, a tape recorder, and manuscript paper.

Entrust yourself to Stuart Kenney as he leads you into the “Groove”. Through contra dance music, find yours, explore it, and then own it. This ensemble class is designed for musicians of all levels playing a full array of instruments.

Marko Packard will unveil the musical mysteries of adding tonal texture and harmonic interest to a band by backing up fiddle tunes on wind instruments for example, flute, whistle, clarinet.

“Anything but boring”, play contra dance music with Lift Ticket style! Small groups led by Seth Houston, Rex Blazer, and C.W. Abbott will learn the repertoire and then join together to work on whole band issues: matching tunes to dances, matching styling to dances, propelling energy throughout a dance medley, and “special effects”.

Look forward to joining spontaneous ensembles, accompanying dancers during Early Morning Stretch and Open Mic, and fortifying the dynamic Camper Band. Jam into the wee hours around the campfire or in the Meadow under the stars with some of the finest musicians to be found.

What a great camp! The organization is meticulous. I felt a real feeling of community here that is all too rare anymore in our hurry-up culture.
