Square dancing is for everyone!

Come on out for an Old-Time Square Dance in Berkeley.

We have live music at every dance.

All ages welcome. Beginners welcome. The caller teaches all of the dances right before we dance them.

Dress: casual. Bring dance shoes if you have them. No stiletto heels allowed.

This is an old-time or traditional square dance rather than a modern or club square dance. We do not have classes or levels. Square dancers of all stripes are welcome!

This is a queer-friendly event where you can dance any role you like.

There is no square dance scheduled for June 2026. If you would like to be involved in making the square dance happen in the future, please contact Lindsey at the address below. We would love to work with you.

Old-Time Square Dance at the Hillside Club! This dance is in the year 2025. No experience necessary. Kids welcome. BYOB--beer and wine only; no hard liquor. Doors open at 7:45. Please pay in cash or venmo. Bring dance shoes if you have them; no stiletto heels allowed. Regarding the style of dance: this is not a modern or club square dance; it is a traditional or old-time square dance. That said, square dancers of all stripes are welcome!

Getting to the Hillside Club:
The Hillside Club is at 2286 Cedar Street in North Berkeley, between Spruce and Arch streets.

From the I-80 Freeway (north or south-bound):
Exit the freeway at the University Avenue and take University Avenue east (towards the hills) 1.1 miles to Sacramento Street. Turn LEFT on Sacramento and proceed 1/2 mile to Cedar Street. Turn RIGHT on Cedar Street and proceed 1 mile to the Hillside Club at 2286 Cedar Street (other alternatives for getting to Cedar Street from University Avenue include Sixth Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way).

From the Downtown Berkeley Bart Station:
Exit the BART station on Shattuck avenue and walk north on Shattuck for about 1/2 mile to Cedar Street, then walk east on Cedar for about 2/10 of a mile to the Hillside Club at 2286 Cedar Street (please note that the last 2/10 of a mile on Cedar is uphill).
