PlayFood: Chocolate Chip Bars

"Cookies All Awry"
"Dominoes"

3 ½ c. sifted flour
1 ½ tsp. baking powder
¾ tsp. baking soda
¼ tsp. salt
1 ½ c. butter
1 ¼ c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
3 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2 12 oz. pkg. Mini chocolate chips (these must be small for the dot effect)

Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cream
butter and sugar. Add eggs and beat in thoroughly. Stir in vanilla.
Add dry ingredients and mix well. Stir in chocolate chips. Line an
8x8 baking pan with waxed paper: Take two pieces of waxed paper that
are more than twice as long as the pan. Pleat in the middle so they
are each 8 inches wide. Fit them at right angles into the pan. Pack
in the dough so that it is a uniform thickness (should be about 1 inch
thick). Fold over the flaps of the waxed paper and freeze.

To bake: Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Remove frozen slab of dough.
Cut into 5 even-width “logs” (each will be about 1 ½ inches wide).
Work with one “log” at a time and keep the rest frozen. Slice with a
very sharp knife into ¼ inch thick rectangles. They should look
something like dominoes. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet, allowing
enough room for swelling. Bake 8-10 minutes, until they just set and
start to turn brown on the edges. Remove from the pan and cool. Makes
120-130 “dominoes”.
