Gardening Tips:
Welcome to a Garden of Earthly Delights
How many kinds of flowers grow in an English Country garden? I'll tell you
now of some that we know...
Welcome to the 20th BACDS Playford Ball, truly a Garden of Earthly
Delights. Here you'll find old cultivars to delight you anew, in a program drawn
from past balls mixed with a few hybrids. If these dances are new to you, please
join us at a Ball Review on February 25 or March 10. The Rehearsal dance on Friday,
March 30 is a splendid time to refresh your acquaintance with visiting dancers as well as
your dance memories.
A Few Garden Notes, to cultivate a good time for all:
- We hope you'll meet new friends as well as favorite dancing partners.
Please keep plenty of dances open for an out-of-town guest, someone who sat out the
previous dance, or a seedling new dancer.
- All but two dances will be introduced with a
"talk-through." Parson's Farewell and Step Stately are for those who know
- if they're unknown to you, please enjoy the view from outside a set.
- You are invited to ask anyone you wish as a partner. The dance
directions use old-fashioned titles "lady" and "gent", as there may be
men dancing with men, women dancing with men, women dancing with women. Please dance
on whichever side of the set is comfortable.
- In some set dances we will pause between repetitions for those
wishing to dance to "tap in" to a set. If someone asks, please graciously
allow them to dance.
- A bit of advance preparation yields a better bloom - make sure your
garments (especially shoes!) are comfortable and easy to dance in.
- The Playford Ball is a "fragrance-free" event. Please
do not wear perfumes, colognes, scented shampoos or deodorants, or engage in any partaking
of tobacco products (as they may cause unpleasant (or worse!) reactions in some of our
dancers.
- When the Ball is over, please collect your things and join us for the
Post-Playford Party. If you stay too long, you will find yourself recruited for the
cleanup crew.
- The Post-Playford Party and the April Fools' Sunday Brunch are
pot-luck events. Please bring your favorite food to share. Friends and family
are welcome at the brunch.
We begin the Ball promptly at 7:15 with a Grand March through the
garden. Please join us, and have a glorious time at this growing tradition!
