BET--Bethany United Methodist Church, 1268 Sanchez (at Clipper), San Francisco. 2nd Saturday English dance, 7:30pm.
CCH--Catholic Charities Hall, 600 Columbia Drive, San Mateo. Playford Ball rehearsal dances.

Friday, October 1
The month starts off with an English country dance in Palo Alto at MT. Bob Fraley teaches all you need to know, with music by Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer, Mark Daly and Paul Kostka) .

Saturday, October 2
The first Saturday contra in San Francisco at SF. Series host Charlie Fenton serves up a fine variety of contras, with music by The Contrabandits (Kathrine Gardner, Chris Knepper, Charlie Hancock, and Kit Nelson) .

Wednesday, October 6
Every Wednesday, there's community dancing at GNC in Berkeley; tonight Erik Hoffman calls to an Open Band led by Chris Knepper, Radim Zenkl and Richard Mandell.

The newly-returned San José English dance works its magic with Jody McGeen at the mike and Stan Kramer and Kay Thorne at the melody. A wonderful series...

Friday, October 8
Second Friday? It is! Head on over to Berkeley's FIN to dance to Kirston Koths and the fine bluegrass/Southern sounds of the The Earls (Ray Bierl, Carolyn Cirimele, Marty Cutler, and Mary Gibbons) .

Saturday, October 9
The monthly San Francisco English dance at BET starts at 7:30pm with a fine foursome from the South Bay: caller Bob Fraley and musicians Stan and Susan Kramer and William Allen. Parking's tight--take transit if you can!

In the south part of Palo Alto, at PA, there's a contra with Kirston Koths calling, and music by Sidesaddle (Lee Anne Welch, Jerry Ashford, Kim Elking, Beth McNamara, & Dave Ristrom).

Sunday, October 10
& The Square/Contra in El Cerrito at ECV kicks off at 7pm and features series host Jim Saxe calling to Earl White and Wendy Robinson (both from Massachussetts), along with local fave Brendan Doyle.

Wednesday, October 13
The Wednesday English dance in Berkeley at GNC, at the corner of Oxford and Cedar. Series host David Newitt calls, with music provided by David Mostardi, Laurie Edelman, and Anise Feldman.

Friday, October 15
Third Friday Palo Alto English dance, featuring Bob Fraley and Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer, Mark Daly and Paul Kostka) .

The Fall Dance weekend starts tonight at Monte Toyon (near Aptos), but camp is full as of 9/13/99--in fact it's overbooked by 25%. Check the Fall Weekend webpage for details about the waiting list.

Saturday, October 16
Out there in the Sunset, the San Francisco contra at SF features Ken Olcott calling, with music by those dotGals (Susan Sullivan, Dan & Karen Warrick, and Adam Cavan).

Wednesday, October 20
At GNC, the Berkeley contra pairs the dotGals (Susan Sullivan, Dan & Karen Warrick, and Adam Cavan) with the wonderful caller (also musician and choreographer!) Roger Diggle, from Madison WI: a veteran of many dance events nationwide, as well as being on the current CDSS board.

A special San José English dance evening at SJS: calling and playing will be Jacqueline Schwab, a superb teacher and pianist, joined by the incredible Earl Gaddis on violin--yes, half of Bare Necessities!

Friday, October 22
The San Francisco contra at SF, with special guest David Millstone from New Hampshire, joined by local luminaries Luceo (Lee Anne Welch, John Light, and Rebecca King).

Saturday, October 23
... And at the Palo Alto dance, at PA, another star from out of town, Roger Diggle, teams up with Luceo (Lee Anne Welch, John Light, and Rebecca King).

The experienced English dance at GNC features an Open Mike contact (mary@luckhardt.com to join in), with music by Stan and Susan Kramer, Bill Jensen, and Paul Kostka.

While up in Fairfax at FCC, the contra features Stuart Moody and Lorraine Sohlberg, and Paul & Laura Barnett.

Sunday, October 24
& Open Mike evening at the El Cerrito dance at ECV at 7pm, with music by Hell Broke Loose In El Cerrito. Contact Jim Saxe at (650) 493-1680 to call, Bobbi Nikles at (510) 235-0370 to join the band. Potluck beforehand at 5:30. p> Wednesday, October 27
Berkeley English dance at GNC. Music by Charlie Hancock, David Newitt, & Avis Minger: and a special appearance of Alisa Dodson--a wonderful caller and linchpin of BACDS until (sniff!) she moved to Colorado.

Friday, October 29
A fifth Wednesday Palo Alto English dance at MT: Alan Winston calling, with music by Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer, Mark Daly and Paul Kostka) .

Saturday, October 30
BACDS' 19th Annual Hallowe'en Ball, Eric Boo-raku & Special Ghosts calling at "PA", music by the Hillbillies From Mars (Ray Bierl, Kevin Carr, Paul Kotapish, & Daniel Steinberg). Bring goodies to share and a costume to compete for the Ron Award! 8pm-midnight, $10/9.
