BET--Bethany United Methodist Church, 1268 Sanchez (at Clipper), San Francisco. 2nd Saturday English dance, 7:30pm.
ECV--El Cerrito Veterans' Hall, 6401 Stockton at Kearney, El Cerrito. 2nd and 4th Sundays East Bay Square/Contra dance, 7pm
FCC--Fairfax Community Church, 2398 Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Fairfax. 4th Saturday contradances

Saturday, January 1
The 1st Saturday Contra at SF has been CANCELLED--Happy New Year!

Wednesday, January 5
The month starts with a contra in Berkeley at GNC. Erik Hoffman calls an evening with an Open Band led by Craig Johnson, David Brown, Lani Herrmann

In San José, the first Wednesday English dance at SJS features caller Alan Winston, with music provided by Kay Thorne & Stan Kramer

Friday, January 7
The year's first Palo Alto English dance in takes place downtown at MT, with Bob Fraley calling and music by Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer, Mark Daly and Paul Kostka) .

Saturday, January 8
The Palo Alto contra at, well, PA, features series host Eric Black calling with music by the amazing trio of Laura Light (Charlottesville VA), Freyda Epstein, and Daniel Steinberg.

The once-a-month San Francisco English dance at BET starts at 7:30 and features David Newitt teaching the dance, with music by Janette Duncan, Kathrine Gardner, Craig Johnson.

Sunday, January 9
& In El Cerrito, the East Bay square and contra dance kicks off at 7pm at ECV; the versatile David Newitt calls to the music of Chris Knepper & Charlie Hancock.

Wednesday, January 12
The second Wednesday English dance at GNC, featuring caller David Newitt and Open Band lead by Charlie Hancock and friends (of which he has many and varied!).

Friday, January 14
Late though the day may be, it's still a second Friday, and that means that it's the night for the monthly contra at FIN in Berkeley. Your series host Kirston Koths calls, with music by the estimable band Boiled Bayzards (Dan Levinson, Chuck Aronson, Joanne Weil Aronson, & Barb Swan).

Saturday, January 15
The hot Saturday San Francisco contra at SF, with Jim Saxe calling to the stunning striped sextet of Québecquasi (Kevin Carr, John Hamstra, Caroline Cirimele, Barbara Mendelsohn, Laurie Rivin, Daniel Steinberg).

Wednesday, January 19
Come to GNC in Berkeley, where there's community dancing every Wednesday... Erik Hoffman calls, with an Open Band led by Boiled Bayzards (Dan Levinson, Chuck Aronson, Joanne Weil Aronson, & Barb Swan).

... of course, there's also a great English dance tonight, as well, in San José (well, to be precise, SJS). Jody McGeen teaching, with fine music by Kay Thorne & Stan Kramer.

Friday, January 21
Third Friday English dance at MT, with series host Bob Fraley and music by Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer, Mark Daly and Paul Kostka) .

Saturday, January 22
The fourth Saturday already, with a trio of dances--the Palo Alto contra at PA features caller Erik Hoffman and sizzling Southern music by Suzy's Floozies (Suzy Thompson, Maxine Gerber, & Kate Brislin).

Up in Fairfax, the contra at FCC has genial Stuart Moody calling to the music of Bobbi & Roland Nikles and friends.

A special treat for experienced English dancers: at GNC Bruce Hamilton leads the dance, to the music of Charlie Hancock, Stan Kramer, David Mostardi.

Sunday, January 23
& The East Bay square/contra at ECV starts at 7pm, and features series host Jim Saxe with music by a band with a wonderful name Dr. Clausenhammer Stringband (Dan Levenson (Cleveland), Rick Thum (St. Louis), Joanne Weil Aronson, and Barb Swan).

Wednesday, January 26
The Berkeley English dance at GNC, with Lise Dyckman teaching you all you need to know, and music by Craig Johnson, Avis Minger, and David Newitt, and you, too, if you will--like most Wednesday English dances, it's an Open Band.

Friday, January 28
The always-pleasant Friday contra at SF, with Charlie Fenton and The Contra Bandits (Kathrine Gardner, Chris Knepper, Charlie Hancock, and Kit Nelson) . Yeah!

Saturday, January 29
You're in luck! You can finish up the month with a fifth-Saturday Palo Alto contra at PA. Great bill: the estimable Andy Wilson and Québecquasi (Kevin Carr, John Hamstra, Caroline Cirimele, Barbara Mendelsohn, Laurie Rivin, Daniel Steinberg).
