The San Francisco contra at SF! David Newitt calls, with the music of Bay Area faves The Contrabandits (Kathrine Gardner, Chris Knepper, Charlie Hancock, and Kit Nelson).
Sunday, August 8
& Second Sunday already? Time for the East Bay Square/Contra in El Cerrito at ECV. It all starts at 7pm, with Erik Hoffman calling, to the bluegrass-imbued sounds of The Earls (Ray Bierl, Alan Senauke and Marty Cutler)
Wednesday, August 11
The good news? They all play other instruments... The bad news? They may refuse to! The English dance at GNC features David Newitt (calling, concertina) with music by the all-accordion The Box Rebellion (Craig Johnson, Kathrine Gardner, Mark Carroll, Charlie Hancock).
Friday, August 13
The once-a-month Friday Berkeley contra at FIN features veterans Kirston Koths (calling), Kathrine Gardner (fiddle, accordion), Ray Bierl (fiddle), Craig Johnson (piano).
Saturday, August 14
The second Saturday contra in Palo Alto at PA, with series host Eric Black and Squeaky Wheel (Jim Oakden, Charlie Hancock, & Chuck Aronson)--a band that sounds a lot better than its name would imply.
There's English Country dancing in San Francisco once a month, and tonight's the night... in the Noe Valley district at BET. A caller yet to be named, with Mark Carroll, Kathrine Gardner, David Newitt.
Wednesday, August 18
The third Wednesday contra at GNC with genial Charlie Fenton calling and music by an Open Band led by Chris Knepper and Charlie Hancock.
Friday, August 20

Up in Fairfax, the once-a-month contra at FCC holds forth with series host Stuart Moody and music by John & Iseult Caulfield, and Richard Mandell.
Finally, and wrapping up the month of August, the fourth Saturday experienced English dance at GNC in Berkeley, with David Newitt leading the dance, and music by Mark Carroll and Avis Minger.
