Wednesday, February 3

The Berkeley contra at GNC: seriesmeister Erik Hoffman calling, Open Band lead by John Pederson, Michael Drayton and Perry Fly.

English dancing in downtown San José at SJS. Jody McGeen (programmer of this choice series) joins Alisa Dodson in calling, with music by Greenwich Mean Time (Kay Thorne, Vaughn Wolff and Stanley Kramer).

Friday, February 5
FIrst Friday English dance in downtown Palo Alto at MT, with Bob Fraley and Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer) .

Saturday, February 6
The SF contra at SF, of couse... Jim Saxe calls, to the music of Squeaky Wheel (Jim Oakden, Charlie Hancock, and Chuck Aronson) (and no, they're not a hurdy-gurdy band).

Wednesday, February 10
Wednesday Berkeley English dance at GNC: your series host David Newitt calls, tunes by Laurie Edelman, David Mostardi and Craig Johnson.

Friday, February 12
That 2nd Friday Berkeley contra at FIN. Kirston Koths is your caller, with music by Paul Kotapish, Kyle Thayer and friends.

Saturday, February 13
The 2nd Saturday SF English dance at BET starts at 7:30pm. Bob Fraley calls, with music by Mark Carrol, David Strong and Anise Feldman.

The rollicking Palo Alto contra at PA features the well-traveled Eric Black calling, with music by Ray Bierl, Daniel Steinberg and friends.

Sunday, February 14
Contra till the sun rises at the Santa Cruz Dawn Dance at "SCZ". Great local bands and callers, 8pm to 7am with a midnight potluck. Call 408/423-5218 for info, or check out the Santa Cruz/Monterey Country Dancers webpage.

The East Bay square/contra has been cancelled--go to the Dawn Dance!

Wednesday, February 17
East Bay contra at GNC! Kirston Koths is the caller, music by on Open Band lead by the incredible trio of Shira Kammen, Chris Knepper and Charlie Hancock.

San José English at SJS. Jody McGeen and Alisa Dodson call, with fine music by Greenwich Mean Time (Kay Thorne, Vaughn Wolff and Stanley Kramer).

Friday, February 19
Palo Alto's English dance at "MT". David Newitt is the guest caller, music by the usual stalwarts of Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Stanley and Susan Kramer, Mark Daly and Paul Kostka).

Saturday, February 20
A wonderful SF contra (at SF): The SF Scottish Fiddle Club featuring Alasdair Fraser is the band, Charlie Fenton, the caller. A benefit for the club.

Wednesday, February 24
The fourth Wednesday Berkeley English dance at GNC. Alisa Dodson teaches, to the music of Chuck Ward, Anise Feldman and Laurie Edelman.

Friday, February 26
Contradancing to music by two New England legends at the San Francisco contra at SF: fiddler Donna Hébert (Yankee Ingenuity and the Chantrelles) and pianist Peter Spicer (founding member of Fiddleheads). Charlie Fenton is your caller.

Saturday, February 27
[2/21] The fourth Saturday Fairfax contra at a special location for this month only--Marin Primary School, 20 Magnolia Ave., Larkspur (Call 415-380-8632 for more information). The dance features Elizabeth Douglas calling, music by Gus Garelick and Don Coffin. Here are directions to the hall.

This months Berkeley experienced English dance at GNC with Alan Winston calling and music by Mark Carrol, Laurie Edelman and Dick Bagwell.

Hot contradancing down the peninsula at PA as Los Angelina Susan Michaels takes the mike, great music by Suzy's Floozies (Suzy Thompson, Kate Brislin, and Maxine Gerber).

Sunday, February 28
It's less than four dancing weeks until the Playford Ball, so come to the first Ball workshop, in El Cerrito at ECV at 2pm. Jody McGeen will teach all of what's on the program, music by Charlie Hancock and David Strong.

& The East Bay square/contradance turns 8! Celebrate at 7pm at "ECV" with the renowned Cavalcade of Callers, and that fine community band Hell Broke Loose in Berkeley (call Kathrine at (650) 726-3495 to join). Pre-dance (and post-Workshop) potluck at 5:30...

General Notes

BACDS currently holds about twenty dances a month, with series on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. All dances start at 8pm unless otherwise indicated.
Admission (unless otherwise noted): Wednesday dances, $6; Weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) dances, $7. There's a $1 discount for BACDS and CDSS or CDS-affiliate members (that includes Santa Cruz/Monterey Country Dancers and the North Bay Country Dancers), with valid membership card.
A free beginners' orientation session is offered at 7:30pm for all Friday and Saturday contradances and for the Wednesday Berkeley English dances. We'll strive to keep this list current; just in case, BACDS phone hotlines are at (415) 282-7374 (San Francisco) and (650) 965-9169 (South Bay)
