JANUARY

Friday, January 1
Kick off the new year with an Engish Country dance at Palo Alto's MT... Alan Winston joins Bob Fraley in leading the dance, with music by Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer, Mark Daly and Paul Kostka).

Saturday, January 2
The first Saturday San Francisco contra at SF features the ever-versatile David Newitt calling to the wonderful music of DotGals (Susan Sullivan, Dan and Karen Warrick, Adam Cavan). As with all BACDS weekend contras, there'll be a beginners' orientation at 7:30.

Wednesday, January 6
While up in Berkeley, the first Wednesday dance takes place at GNC--series host Erik Hoffman calls, to an Open Band featuring Seattle's WB Reid and local faves Brendan Doyle and Dan Warrick.

English dancing returns to San José from its holiday hiatus as Jody McGeen joins Greenwich Mean Time (Kay Thorne, Vaughn Wolff and Stanley & Susan Kramer) for an evening of dance at SJS.

Friday, January 8
It is a second Friday, so there'll be a contra at FIN, with Kirston Koths calling and music by Boiled Bayzards (Dan Levenson, Chuck Aronson, Joanne Weil-Aronson, and Barb Swan).

Saturday, January 9
The San Francisco English dance at BET starts at 7:30, with David Newitt calling (see, versatile!) and music by Charlie Hancock, Kimberly McKittrick and Kathrine Gardner.

The Palo Alto contra at PA. ... Eric Black (Tokyo) calls to the mighty trio of Laura Light (Charlottesville), Daniel Steinberg and Piper Heisig. Wow!

Sunday, January 10
& The printed calendar implies squares and English, but really that's squares and contras, at the 2nd Sunday dance in El Cerrito at ECV. Jim Saxe calls, with music by Boiled Bayzards (Dan Levenson, Chuck Aronson, Joanne Weil-Aronson, and Barb Swan).

Wednesday, January 13
You like accordians? This dance at NGC is for you! Alan Winston and Lise Dyckman call to the dulcet ECD strains of Charlie Hancock (piano/accordian), Craig Johnson (accordian/piano) and David Strong (fiddle, but he can play loud...). Hmmm...

Friday, January 15
3rd Friday, Palo Alto, must be an English dance at MT with Lise Dyckman and Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer, Mark Daly and Paul Kostka). Don't miss it.

Saturday, January 16
Gala Sierra Swinng benefit at SF, featuring caller Charlie Fenton and musickers Kevin Carr, Daniel Steinberg, Peter Langston and Russell Clark. Plus guests and surprises. Regular admission, optional benefit donation. Great food and fun.

Wednesday, January 20
Old timey tunes a'plenty at the contra at GNC as the Boiled Bayzards (Dan Levenson, Chuck Aronson, Joanne Weil-Aronson, and Prune Rooney) lead an Open Band with Jim Saxe at the mike.

...while in San José, the 3rd Wednesday English dance at SJS features the irrepressible Jody McGeen calling to the music of the irreproachible Greenwich Mean Time (Kay Thorne, Vaughn Wolff and Stanley & Susan Kramer).

Friday, January 22
A San Francisco contra at SF: Charlie Fenton joins the The Contrabandits (Kathrine Gardner, Chris Knepper, Charlie Hancock, and Kit Nelson) for an evening of fast swings and great tunes.

Saturday, January 23
The once-a-month Fairfax contra at FCC showcases Andy Wilson, caller, and those dotGals (Susan Sullivan, Karen Warrick, Kathy Hirsh, and Adam Cavan).

The fourth Saturday experienced English dance at English country dance at "GNC" features the color Stormy, with David Newitt calling and music by Craig Johnson, Judy Linsenberg and David Strong.

In Palo Alto, at PA, the fourth Saturday contra, with Jim Saxe and the The Contrabandits (Kathrine Gardner, Chris Knepper, Charlie Hancock, and Kit Nelson).

Wednesday, January 27
Alisa Dodson leads the dance at the Wednesday English dance at GNC. Music by Mark Carroll, Judy Linsenberg and Avis Minger.

Friday, January 29
Fifth Friday English--why not? Bob Fraley calls to the music of Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer, Mark Daly and Paul Kostka).

Saturday, January 30
Finish out the month with a rousing contra at PA, as Erik Hoffman teams up with musicians Chris Knepper and Charlie Hancock.
