All dancers (ECD and display) and musicians -- new and veteran -- will find a welcoming atmosphere and wonderful experiences. We invite you to join our community, and to be part of the continuing tradition of English Dance and Music Week at Mendocino!
Display dancers will enjoy fabulous classes as well as the Morris tour. If you are primarily interested in English country dance, you will find many stimulating dance workshops to choose from.
Music is a big part of what makes the week so special. We have a tremendous line-up of musicians offering inspiring dance music and instruction. Music workshops will help you improve your ensemble techniques, go beyond playing the melody, and play inspiring backup. There’ll be many options for playing and singing together, including a daily camper band rehearsal session.
As noted on the schedule, there is almost always something to do (and relaxing in the beautiful woodlands is a viable option).
After the evening dance we gather for special entertainment or an after-hours diversion. In 2009 we will have a Pub Night, a Ceilidh dance, Balkan dancing and more. And of course there's always the Auction and the Campers Night: feel free to bring items to donate, dances to teach, and talents, tales, or songs to share.
The Back Porch Gathering is back by popular demand -- at the outside dining area before lunch we gather for staff and camper performances, stories, and more. One afternoon we hold a High Tea -- bring your white gloves and a charming hat if you wish. We also stage (and encourage you to host) occasional late-afternoon get-togethers to help us relax between the day's classes and the evening's dances.
We have several special opportunities this year. Prolific composer Larry Unger will lead a tune-writing workshop. Judy Rose Dornbush will entice campers with daily creative art projects. We also offer a special daily waltz workshop, couple dancing at the start of each evening dance, and a waltz party.
For the health of all camp participants, we strongly encourage the use of nontoxic and fragrance-free products at camp. Complete information will be included in the acceptance packet.
Be sure to check your camper's letter for more details on what to look forward to this year!
