  (Highly recommeded!  By the beach & Golden Gate Park.  Charming motel with one of the best places in SF for brunch. It's close to the dance but you will add 7 or 8 minutes travel time

• Lombard Plaza Motel

  (Not close, but basic budget motel, around $49 per night. Safe neighborhood.  Not immaculate but decent.  My housemate has friends who have stayed there. About 25 min. driving time from the dance.

  (A few blocks from a BART station, in the heart of the city.  Cost in the $49-$59 range by booking in advance.  Report from parents of a local dancer: "I found it quite comfortable.  Plain, but comfortable.  Bathrooms consisted of common areas in the hallways, so my folks were renting literally just a bedroom.  It's no Ritz Carlton, but appealing in its right.  The old building houses an elevator probably still running on a pre-electronic-era mechanical governor system, complete with a black metal grate to move out of the way before opening the door.")

  (Luxury living for backpackers! Formerly the Atherton Hotel, this newly renovated, 75-room hostel offers both private rooms and 4- or 5-bed dorms, all with private bathrooms. The beautiful Ivy's Place parlor-style cafe serves free breakfast daily to hostel guests).
   
• San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf Hostel

  (The most popular budget option in the city. Housed in historic buildings in a National Park setting with views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge, this is an ideal choice for travelers who prefer green grass and birdsong to the frenetic pace of urban life. The hostel is conveniently located between the Marina district and the Fisherman's Wharf/North Beach neighborhood.  Located in Fort Mason, part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The hostel sits right on the waterfront, overlooking San Francisco Bay with views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. Paved foot/bike paths run from the hostel, along the water, east to Fisherman's Wharf and west to the Marina Green.)

Maximum 4 beds per dorm room, some with private bathroom. Private rooms with private bathroom available. Comfy, spacious guest lounges with flat-screen TV, games, and library. Self-service guest kitchen and dining room)
