BET--Bethany United Methodist Church, 1268 Sanchez (at Clipper), San Francisco. 2nd Saturday English dance, 7:30pm.
ECV--El Cerrito Veterans' Hall, 6401 Stockton at Kearney, El Cerrito. 2nd and 4th Sundays East Bay Square/Contra dance, 7pm

SEPTEMBER

Friday, September 1
The month takes off with an English Country dance in downtown Palo Alto at MT. Series host Bob Fraley calls the dances, with music by Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer, Mark Daly and Paul Kostka) . This evening has a special focus on the waltz in English Country dance--dances with a waltz step will be highlighted, and there are waltz lessons for those who will at 7:30pm.

Saturday, September 2
The San Francisco Contra at SF, with genial Charlie Fenton to the tunes of that amazing string duo Stump Tail Dog (Dan Engle & Ray Frank). As with all BACDS weekend contras, there's a beginners' orientation half an hour before the dance.

Wednesday, September 6
The evening that English country dancers have been waiting for: the San José English dance returns from its aestivation, reappearing with a season opening party at SJS in downtown San José. Jody McGeen & friends lead the dance, tunes by Stan Kramer and Bill Jensen.

While up in Berkely at GNC, Erik Hoffman calls at the Berkeley contra, along with Open Band led by Debra Tayleur and friends.

Friday, September 8
There's also a second Friday Berkeley contra, of course, and it will be held in FIN. Kirston Koths is your caller for this monthly extravaganza, music by those wonderful The Contra Bandits (Kathrine Gardner, Chris Knepper, Charlie Hancock, and Kit Nelson) .

Saturday, September 9
The second Saturday contra in Palo Alto at PA, with series host Eric Black calling to a fine trio from Santa Cruz: Professor Hogwart's Dance Tonic (Laurie Rivin, Peter Spicer, Chris Jong).

The monthly San Francisco English dance in the Noe Valley district at BET starts at 7:30 and features Lise Dyckman leading, with music by Bill Jensen, Ruth Temple, and Robert Hill.

Sunday, September 10
& Second Sunday? It's time for the square and contra dance at ECV in El Cerrito. It all starts at 7pm, with series host Jim Saxe calling, with music by Ray Frank, Kathrine Gardner, and Charlie Hancock.

Wednesday, September 13
A special treat in Berkeley at GNC as the very versatile Susan Kevra (Brattleboro VT) calls an evening of English dances, with an Open Band led by Charlie Hancock, Avis Minger, and Laurie Edelman.

Friday, September 15
It's just barely a third Friday, true, but you should still head to downtown Palo Alto for the English dance at MT. Featuring Bob Fraley and music by Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer, Mark Daly and Paul Kostka) .

Saturday, September 16
The San Francisco contra at SF in the Sunset district. Charlie Fenton calls, music by The Contra Bandits (Kathrine Gardner, Chris Knepper, Charlie Hancock, and Kit Nelson) . Wow...

Wednesday, September 20
A special evening at the Berkeley contra at GNC. The wonderful caller Susan Kevra (Brattleboro VT) will be calling to music by Alain Chatry (France), plus locals Kevin Carr and Barbara Mendelsohn.

In San José, at SJS, the English country dance features series host Jody McGeen teaching all you need to know, with music by Stan Kramer and Ruth Anne Fraley.

Friday, September 22
It's a fourth Friday, so there's a contra in San Francisco at SF. Tom Roby calls, with music by the wonderful trio Luceo (Lee Anne Welch, John Light, and Rebecca King).

Saturday, September 23
Hot times in Palo Alto at the contra at PA: Kirston Koths calls, with music by Swing Farm (Ray Bierl, Charlie Hancock & Steven Strauss).

The once-a-month Fairfax contra takes place on fourth Saturdays at FCC. Tonight, series host Stuart Moody with tunes provided by the The Highballers (John Pedersen, Donli Smith, Perry Fly).

Finally, the experienced Berkeley English dance at GNC features a quartet of talented folks from the South Bay: Bob Fraley calling, with music by Ruth Anne Fraley, Stan Kramer and Susan Kramer.

Sunday, September 24
& The square/contra at ECV in El Cerrito starts off at 7pm, and features Lynn Ackerson & Andy Wilson--fresh from a wonderful Callers' Week at Pinewoods with Larry Edelman. Music by an Open Band led by Vista Strings (Bobbi and Roland Nikles, Lisa Croen, and Daren Santos).

Wednesday, September 27
Remember, every Wednesday night there's community dancing in Berkeley at GNC. Tonight David Newitt calls, with music by David Mostardi, Laurie Edelman, and Chuck Ward.

Friday, September 29
It's a fifth Friday; so there's an English dance in Palo Alto at MT Bob Fraley teaches, music by talented series regulars Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer, Mark Daly and Paul Kostka) .

Saturday, September 30
There's another fifth weekday-of-the-month dance in Palo Alto: the Saturday contra at PA in the south part of town. Monterey caller Warren Blier is headlined, with another trio of old friends who are experienced contra musicians yet don't have a band name: Kathrine Gardner, Chris Knepper and Craig Johnson.
