The Playford Ball comes once a year (at the end of this very month, in fact), so it's time to nail those dances. Thus this, the second Ball workshop, this time in San Mateo at CCH at 2pm. David Newitt will teach all of what's on the program, music by Kathrine Gardner and Craig Johnson.
Wednesday, March 10
At the Wednesday Berkeley English dance at GNC, you get a sort of mini-Playford preview: ball leader David Newitt calls, with music by 60% of this year's quintet--Charlie Hancock, Judy Linsenberg and Danny Carnahan.
Friday, March 12
The Berkeley contra at FIN--Kirston Koths calls, music by Massachusetts' Jim Guinness, plus local faves Ray Bierl and Charlie Hancock. Wow!
Saturday, March 13
The 2nd Saturday SF English dance at BET starts at 7:30pm. Alan Winston is your caller, music by Jon Berger, David Newitt and friends.

The East Bay square/contra kicks off at 7pm, and features Charlie Hancock, Bobbi Nikles and Jim Guinness.
Wednesday, March 17
Special St. Paddy's contradance at GNC! Special guest Larry Ungar (a mighty Massachussetts musician) and Kevin Carr and Paul Kotapish. Believe it or not, there's a Potato Dish Potluck, $7.

The third and final Playford Ball Review dance at San Mateo's CCH. The mystery deepens as dances are taught by "The Usual Suspects" (don't know who they are, but it should be should be quite the line-up), and music by Ruth Anne Fraley, Stan and Susan Kramer and David Newitt. Only $6.
Saturday, March 27
The Playford Ball at the majestic SRT in Oakland. Detective David Newitt leads you through "A Little Mystery", accompanied by fine dancing and wonderful food. And the music--Judy Linsenberg, David Mostardi, Danny Carnahan, Shira Kammen and Charlie Hancock. Not to be missed by devotees of the English dance. The 5th Wednesday East Bay contra at GNC, which means Open Callers and Open Band. Erik Hoffman coordinates the callers (contact him at 510/444-4397 if you want a slot), music led by Three O'Clock Shadow Erik Hoffman, Chris Grampp and Adam Cavan).
