Wednesday, December 2nd

Kick off the month with a contra at Berkeley's GNC. Erik Hoffman calls, with music by an Open Band let by Chris Knepper, Paul Kotapish and Kyle Thayer.

Or, on the south end of the Bay, come to the San José English dance at SJS. Alisa Dodson leads the dance to the music of Greenwich Mean Time (Kay Thorne, Vaughn Wolff, Susan and Stanley Kramer).

Friday, December 4
The Palo Alto English dance at MT--Lise Dyckman calls, with music by the redoubtable Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer, Mark Daly, Paul Koska) .

Saturday, December 5
12th annual "No Snow Ball" at "SRT" in Oakland--7:30 to 11:30pm, dance to the music of the "5SCR" and calling by Andy WilSnow and Santa himself. Don your gay apparel, and enjoy the contra event of the year... and the buffet dinner!

Wednesday, December 9
It's the second Wednesday Berkeley English dance at NGC. David Newitt, your series host, leads dances to the wonderful tunes of Charlie Hancock, Judy Linsenberg and David Strong.

Friday, December 11
Come to the 2nd Friday contra at FIN, Kirston Koths will call a fine evening of contra, with music by the ever-wonderful Hillbillies From Mars (Ray Bierl, Kevin Carr, Paul Kotapish, & Daniel Steinberg).

Saturday, December 12
The SF English dance starts at 7:30pm at BET, and features Lise Dyckman leading the dance, with music by Mark Carroll and Stanley and Susan Kramer.

Or, if you favor contra, check out the Palo Alto Contra at PA, with Charlie Fenton calling and music by The Contrabandits (Kathrine Gardner, Chris Knepper, Charlie Hancock, and Kit Nelson) .

Sunday, December 13
& It's a 2nd Sunday, and so time for the East Bay Square/Contra at ECV, from 7 to 10pm. David Newitt leads the fray, with music by that versatile duo Chris Knepper and Erik Hoffman.

Wednesday, December 16
The far-famed Christmas party at the English dance in San José at SJS. Bring a goodie to share and enjoy the dance along with caller Jody McGeen and friends, with tunes by Greenwich Mean Time (Kay Thorne, Vaughn Wolff, Susan and Stanley Kramer).

The Berkeley contra at GNC features Lise Dyckman calling, with music by Erik Hoffman and friends.

Friday, December 18
An English dance in Palo Alto at MT, even though it's not on the printed calendar. Bob Fraley calls, to the music of Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer, Mark Daly, Paul Koska) .

Saturday, December 19
With only a few dancing days before the holiday dance cancellations, better come to the SF contra at SF, with Charlie Fenton and music by the The Contrabandits (Kathrine Gardner, Chris Knepper, Charlie Hancock, and Kit Nelson) .

Wednesday, December 23
[12/1] The Berkeley English dance holds its Holiday Party, along with a wonderful evening of dance hosted by Lise Dyckman and music by David Newitt, Avis Minger and Craig Johnson.

Friday, December 25
The fourth Friday contra in SF is CANCELLED for the holidays.

Saturday, December 26
The only BACDS Boxing Day dance is in Fairfax at FCC. 4th Saturday series host Stuart Moody calls to the mighty music of Pat and Anson Young, Greg Wilson and Erik Hoffman.

Both the 4th Saturday "experienced" English dance at GNC and the Palo Alto contra at PA have been CANCELLED for the holidays....

Sunday, December 27
& The East Bay Square/Contra at ECV starts at 7pm, with series meister Jim Saxe at the mike. Music features local fiddling hero Kathrine Gardner teaming up with wonderful ex-Bay Area musicians Jeremy Kammerer and Linda Wilson. Be there.

Wednesday, December 30
The East Bay contra at GNC will happen, but I don't know who's calling or playing. I'll let you know as soon as I do...

The regular 5th Wednesday English dance has been CANCELLED ... Happy New Year to all!

General Notes

BACDS currently holds about twenty dances a month, with series on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. All dances start at 8pm unless otherwise indicated.
Admission (unless otherwise noted): Wednesday dances, $6; Weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) dances, $7. There's a $1 discount for BACDS and CDSS or CDS-affiliate members (that includes Santa Cruz/Monterey Country Dancers and the North Bay Country Dancers), with valid membership card.
A free beginners' orientation session is offered at 7:30pm for all Friday and Saturday contradances and for the Wednesday Berkeley English dances. We'll strive to keep this list current; just in case, BACDS phone hotlines are at (415) 282-7374 (San Francisco) and (650) 965-9169 (South Bay)
