BET--Bethany United Methodist Church, 1268 Sanchez (at Clipper), San Francisco. 2nd Saturday English dance, 7:30pm.
ECV--El Cerrito Veterans' Hall, 6401 Stockton at Kearney, El Cerrito. 2nd and 4th Sundays East Bay Square/Contra dance, 7pm

Wednesday, February 2
The San José English dance at SJS... with Jody McGeen & Alan Winston calling and music by Kay Thorne & Stan Kramer.

[1/24] Erik Hoffman, your series host, calls the Berkeley contra at GNC (since we printed the calendars, Patti Smolian has had to go to London, poor lass...), music is an Open Band led by dotGals (Susan Sullivan, Dan & Karen Warrick, and Adam Cavan).

Friday, February 4
Alan Winston, Jack of Hearts at this year's Playford Ball, calls the Palo Alto English dance downtown at MT, with music by the estimable Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer, Mark Daly and Paul Kostka) .

Saturday, February 5
First Saturday SF contra at SF, of course. Your host, Charlie Fenton, calls, with music by that versatile and viviparous band The Guppies (Kathrine Gardner, Jim Oakden and Craig Johnson).

Wednesday, February 9
At the Berkeley Wednesday English dance at GNC, David Newitt teaches the dance, and an Open Band led by Craig Johnson, Laurie Edelman and David Mostardi serves up the tunes.

Friday, February 11
A very special Friday Berkeley contra at FIN, as Kirston Koths calls, with music by the Sierra Swing All Stars (Freyda Epstein, Paul Kotapish, Daniel Steinberg and guests). A great way to learn more about BACDS' American week coming up this summer!

Saturday, February 12
Wild contra coming up in Palo Alto at PA: Charlie Fenton calling with music by those The Contra Bandits (Kathrine Gardner, Chris Knepper, Charlie Hancock, and Kit Nelson) .

[1/30] And for those of a more quiet and northerly bent, come to the SF English dance in Noe Valley at BET. It starts at 7:30 and features Joyce Uggla calling to the music of David Strong, Robert Hill and William Allen.

Sunday, February 13
& Got your second Sunday square/contradance right here in El Cerrito at ECV starting at 7pm. Series host Jim Saxe calls to the exciting stringband ".gals".

Wednesday, February 16
Wednesday contra in Berkeley at GNC, with Erik Hoffman calling to an Open Band led by Chris Knepper, Charlie Hancock, and Radim Zenkl.

[2/6] While in San José, the English dance at SJS, with Alan Winston teaching and music by Kay Thorne & Stan Kramer.

Friday, February 18
Friday night English dancea at MT: Bob Fraley calls, with music by Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer, Mark Daly and Paul Kostka) .

Saturday, February 19
Third Saturday San Francisco contra, held at SF Charlie Fenton calling, to the music of that "axle-lent" band Squeaky Wheel (Jim Oakden, Charlie Hancock, & Chuck Aronson).

Sunday, February 20
Dance all night! It's the Santa Cruz Dawn Dance at , starting at 8pm and running until 7am, when the sun comes up, there's a midnight Potluck Dinner, too, bring a dish to share. Admission is $15/$17, and confirmed callers include: Eric Black, Charlie Fenton, Warren Blier and Susie Kendig, with music provided by The Contra Bandits (Kathrine Gardner, Chris Knepper, Charlie Hancock, and Kit Nelson) , dotGals (Susan Sullivan, Dan & Karen Warrick, and Adam Cavan), Stump Tail Dog (Dan Engle & Ray Frank) and Chris Jong, Chris Knepper and Craig Johnson (batting cleanup), which all goes to prove the adage that "Many bands make night work."

Wednesday, February 23
The fourth Wednesday English dance at GNC, with Alan Winston calling to an Open Band led by Charlie Hancock, Judy Linsenberg, and Laurie Edelman.

Friday, February 25
Fourth Friday in February is Irish night at the contra at SF. Kirston Koths to the wonderful band Tipsy House (Jack Gilder, Chris Knepper and Junji Shirota).

Saturday, February 26
All the way from Tokyo comes Eric Black for the contra at PA, with fine bluegrass/oldtime tunes by Sidesaddle (Lee Anne Welch, Jerry Ashford, Kim Elking, Beth McNamara, & Dave Ristrom).

The once-monthly experienced Berkeley English dance at GNC, with Lise Dyckman leading the dance, and three fine musicians who are regulars at Sebastopol's English dance: Mark Carroll, Jon Berger, and Dan Reynolds.

... while in the North Bay proper, at the monthly Fairfax contra (FCC), Stuart Moody calls, to the tunes of John & Iseult Caulfield and Kyle Thayer.

Sunday, February 27
The first of two special dances in El Cerrito at ECV (right off of San Pablo, or a 15-minute walk from the El Cerrito BART. The first is the first (of three) preparatory workshops for the Playford Ball. Alan Winston, leader of the ball this year, teaches all the dances being done at the ball, with music by Kathrine Gardner, Charlie Hancock, and Rebecca King 2:00-5:00 pm, followed by Potluck dinner, $7.

& ...and then at 7pm, still at ECV Come hear the far-famed Cavalcade of Callers and the tunes of Hell Broke Loose in Berkeley (it's a great community band--contact Kathrine Gardner at 650/726-3495). It's the Series Anniversary Celebration! And don't forget that potluck dinner beforehand at 5:30.
