April

Friday, April 2
Start the month with an English Dance at MT ... Mary Devlin (a wonderful caller from Oregon) and local hero Alan Winston teach you all you need to know, with music by Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer) .

Saturday, April 3
The SF contra at SF: series meister Charlie Fenton calls to the music of those variegated, viviparous The Guppies (Kathrine Gardner, Jim Oakden and Craig Johnson).

A very special English dance at a new occasional hall: Adelphian Arts Center, 2167 Central Avenue, Alameda. A trio of callers, Brooke Friendly, Chris Sackett and Alisa Dodson, lead the dance--and there's wonderful music by Kimberly McKittrick, Charlie Hancock and Laurie Edelman, too...

Wednesday, April 7
The old-timey sound at the first Wednesday contra: Erik Hoffman calling with tunes by Suzy Thompson, Dave Murray, Maxine Gerber, & Ed Rudolph.

... and the first Wednesday also marks the English dance at SJS in San José: Alisa Dodson calls, with music by Greenwich Mean Time (Vaughn Wolff, Kay Thorne, Stanley and Susan Kramer).

Friday, April 9
A special contra in Berkeley at FIN: it's A Sierra Swing benefit, with Kirston Koths calling and music by Daniel Steinberg, Ray Bierl, Paul Kotapish and Piper Heisig. Find out what Sierra Swing's all about, and it'll be your last chance to buy a raffle ticket for a free admission to this year's camp come July.

Saturday, April 10
[3/23] How often do you get a chance to dance to a caller from Tokyo? You can do just that at the Palo Alto contra at PA with Eric Black and music by Barbara Mendelson, Chuck Aronson and Bobbi Nikles.

The SF English dance at BET starts at 7:30, as is its wont, and features Bob Fraley teaching the dance and music by Kimberly McKittrick, Charlie Hancock and Laurie Edelman.

Sunday, April 11
and The East Bay Square/Contra at ECV starts at 7pm, and features Jim Saxe and music by dotGals (Susan Sullivan, Dan & Karen Warrick, and Adam Cavan).

Wednesday, April 14
Celebrate getting your taxes in, or deciding to file an extension, at the 2nd Wednesday Berkely English dance at GNC. Your series host David Newitt calls the non-taxing dances, with tunes provided by Judy Linsenberg, Laurie Edelman and Craig Johnson.

Friday, April 16
Palo Alto English dance at MT. Bob Fraley leads the dance, with music by Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stanley Kramer) .

Saturday, April 17
The San Francisco contra (at SF, natch)--Kimberly McKittrick calls, with music by the Bay Area's own Hillbillies From Mars (Ray Bierl, Kevin Carr, Paul Kotapish, & Daniel Steinberg).

Wednesday, April 21
Berkeley contra at NGC, with the amazing Susie Kendig from Santa Cruz calling to an Open Band led by Three O'Clock Shadow (Erik Hoffman, Chris Grampp and Adam Cavan).

The San José English features Jody McGeen with music by Greenwich Mean Time (Vaughn Wolff, Kay Thorne, Stanley and Susan Kramer).

Friday, April 23
The fourth Friday contra at SF: Erik Hoffman calls while the The Contrabandits (Kathrine Gardner, Chris Knepper, Charlie Hancock, and Kit Nelson) play. What a deal!

Saturday, April 24
Scandinavian! A special treat at PA: an early evening Scandinavian couple dance workshop, taught by Mikkel Thompson. Come learn the Pariser Polka and Schottisch variations from 6pm to 7:30...

...which segues nicely into the beginners' workshop before the Palo Alto contra, which starts at 8pm. Erik Hoffman takes the mike, Québecquasi (Kevin Carr, John Hamstra, Caroline Cirimele, Barbara Mendelsohn, Laurie Rivin, Daniel Steinberg) takes the stage.

The monthly Fairfax contra at FCC: caller Ken Olcott with music by dotGals (Susan Sullivan, Dan & Karen Warrick, and Adam Cavan).

For an English countrydance fix, come to NGC, where Alisa Dodson calls to the wonderful music of David Mostardi, Laurie Edelman, & Charlie Hancock. Says here that the theme is "cats". Hmmm...

& The East Bay Square/Contra at ECV starts at 7pm and features caller Erik HOffman with an Open Band led by Stump Tail Dog (Dan Engle & Ray Frank).

Wednesday, April 28
